Like many capital cities, the centre of Edinburgh has sprawled over the years to engulf what were once the little rural villages round about. Some of these have, however, succeeded in retaining their original character. Dean Village and Stockbridge are two of the most attractive of these, which, in addition, have the benefit of being just a few minutes walk from that mecca for tourists, Princes Street.

Dean Terrace Apartment

Dean Village, which stands on the banks of the Water of Leith, was first recorded almost 900 years ago and was at the centre of a thriving baking and milling industry. Now thoroughly gentrified, it is a peaceful conservation area, with many of the Georgian terraces which characterise the elegant New Town and with many interesting and unspoiled old buildings lining its cobbled streets. Stockbridge has been called ‘The Notting Hill Gate of Edinburgh and boasts delicatessens, patisseries, boutiques and some fine restaurants and specialist shops.

On the Dean Village side of Stockbridge is the Garden Apartment in Dean Terrace, part of an A-listed terrace of Georgian houses. It stands in a quiet, leafy cul de sac right across from the river. It is a quite charming apartment and pied-à-terre for two people, beautifully presented and equipped, and with a large (shared) secluded garden (furniture) to the back.

An evening stroll by the river is a must if you are staying here. Just cross the bridge and you will find yourself on the attractive footpath which runs along the Water of Leith, past a classical 'temple'. You will pass St Bernard's Well and the sharp-eyed will spot squirrels and herons in the trees and on the river. The apartment is also within a 10 minute walk of the Royal Botanical Gardens, an ideal place to spend an afternoon, with world famous plant collections, and palm and tropical houses.

If that were not enough, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is within a short walk of the apartment. Yet for all its peaceful situation, you are within easy reach of the city centre, with buses running up and down to the centre from the end of the street. There is on street parking (metered 830am-5.30pm) beside the house.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included!included included in the rental. Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the apartment.
